"Hard work is often due to the piling up of the easy things you neglected to do." - Anonymous
I will not neglect to tell my fans (0 comments still, but hey, if you are against the wall, there is nowhere to go but forward) not to neglect their blogs or blogees(as popular or not-so-popular as they be (ok I'll stop the self-deprecating humor-for now)). The purpose of a blog is to connect with others. This can be for business, social, or both purposes (I would like to think I meet both- at least I try).
A blog should be posted regularly and be incorporated with information, helpful links, and personality. For business, a blog is an excellent way to facilitate rapport with ongoing customers, inform them of happenings in the industry, and showcase upcoming products and services. Unfortunately, if you are not posting on a regular basis, you are neglecting your members in all aspects.
The best of your personality should be put into your blog. If you are having a bad day, perhaps hold off on blogging until you can find your inner Zen. I will make the comparison of talking to people face-to-face. If you are at a 'power lunch' with other cohorts, who will you be most likely to converse with: the guy with the disgruntled look on his face, barking at the pregnant waitress for not bringing him a water in supplement to his diet soda or the guy with an ear-to-ear smile who is loving every second of life?
Some businesses may frown upon showing too much personality in your blog, but I say why the heck not. The blog is an extension of your business. Your business is contingent on your customers. Your customers are people (not unless you are in pet industry, but most likely they are not blogging). People like to be involved with others who are personable (Mr. Cranky Pants need not apply). People will associate your blog to your business. People like to do business with businesses that treat them well. Are you following my train here?
Again, the content of your blog will be relative. This is primarily a business-related blog, so I don't expect the readers (I know you are out there- you are just waiting for the right moment to make yourselves apparent) to want this blog written by Larry, Curley, and Moe; they want SEO information, which I am more than willing and able to provide, but I will not neglect them of my personable persona and neither should the author of your own blogs. Businesspeople, I hope that you are not disappointed in the more philosophical nature of this blog today in contrast to a 'strictly business' format. I will inform you that "lefty" (you have to read to pick up on the ongoing jokes- see all the things you have to look forward to) is 'all business' and does seem to find his way on the blog, though I am the better looking one. Happy weekend-contentmuse out!
